Luckily, Giselle managed to find a town whose architecture looks something like a quaint hamlet in a Disney film, complete with a whimsical fixer-upper of a house where, Giselle assumes, the family will reconnect and finally, actually, settle into the blissful ease of post-credits existence. So, she and the family leave Manhattan for that most common of refuges: suburbia. But things aren’t quite as content as Giselle would like. In the years since, Giselle has helped raise Robert’s daughter, Morgan ( Gabriella Baldacchino), and had a baby of her own. The film was a smash hit and made Adams a household name, so it was probably inevitable in these franchise times that she would one day return to the role. Now, in the new Disney+ film Disenchanted (November 18), Adams is once again exploring what happens after happily ever after, only with a sunnier, sweeter approach.ĭisenchanted is a sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted, about a cartoon princess, Giselle, who is magically transported to our flesh-and-blood world and finds romance with a lawyer, Robert ( Patrick Dempsey). In that production, performed outdoors in Central Park, Adams played the Baker’s Wife, a yearning and sardonic character who has a flintiness we don’t often associate with Adams’s work. Ten years ago, the actor Amy Adams delved into perhaps the greatest deconstruction of fairy tale tropes ever written, Stephen Sondheim’s stage musical Into the Woods.
